In 2021, the largest age group in Division 02 was 50 to 54 year olds. The group that changed the most since 2016 was 75 to 79 year olds, increasing by 677 people.

Five year age groups present a classic age profile of the population. Each age group covers exactly five years, which enables direct comparison between each group.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the five year age groups of Division 02 in 2021 compared to Ashmore shows that there was a higher proportion of people in the younger age groups (under 15) and a lower proportion of people in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 17.3% of the population was aged between 0 and 15, and 19.6% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 16.7% and 22.4% respectively for Ashmore.

The major differences between the age structure of Division 02 and Ashmore were:

  • A larger percentage of persons aged 55 to 59 (6.9% compared to 5.9%)
  • A larger percentage of persons aged 50 to 54 (7.5% compared to 6.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons aged 85 and over (2.0% compared to 4.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons aged 80 to 84 (2.3% compared to 3.5%)

Emerging groups

From 2016 to 2021, Division 02's population increased by 4,408 people (10.9%). This represents an average annual population change of 2.09% per year over the period.

The largest changes in age structure in this area between 2016 and 2021 were in the age groups:

  • 75 to 79 (+677 persons)
  • 70 to 74 (+582 persons)
  • 50 to 54 (+438 persons)
  • 60 to 64 (+412 persons)
