Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Newtown in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (1,030 people or 19.2%)
  • Education and Training (647 people or 12.1%)
  • Retail Trade (540 people or 10.1%)

In combination, these three industries employed 2,217 people in total or 41.3% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, the City of Greater Geelong employed 17.4% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 9.8% in Education and Training; and 10.6% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Newtown and the City of Greater Geelong were:
