In 2021, 14.3% of the Burmese and related languages speaking population in the G21 Region were born in Australia.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the country of birth of the Burmese and related languages speaking population in the G21 Region in 2021 compared to Regional VIC shows that there was a larger proportion of people born overseas.

Overall, 83.7% of the Burmese and related languages speaking population was born overseas, compared with 81.6% for Regional VIC.

The major difference between the countries of birth of the Burmese and related languages speaking population in G21 Region and Regional VIC was:

  • A larger percentage of people born in Myanmar (50.4% compared to 48.1%)

Emerging groups

Between 2016 and 2021, the number of Burmese and related languages speakers born overseas increased by 292 or 51.0%,

The largest changes in birthplace countries of the Burmese and related languages speaking population in this area between 2016 and 2021 were for those born in:

  • Myanmar (+167 persons)
  • Thailand (+120 persons)
