Dominant groups
Analysis of the population needing assistance in the G21 Region in 2021 compared to Regional VIC shows that there was a higher proportion of people in the younger age groups (under 15) and a similar proportion of people in the older age groups (65+).
Overall, 12.0% of the population needing assistance was aged between 0 and 14, and 53.1% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 10.9% and 53.0% respectively for Regional VIC.
The major differences between the age structure of the population needing assistance G21 Region and Regional VIC were:
- A larger percentage of people aged 85 and over (19.1% compared to 18.1%)
- A larger percentage of people aged 5 to 9 (5.2% compared to 4.6%)
- A smaller percentage of people aged 60 to 64 (5.7% compared to 6.5%)
- A smaller percentage of people aged 65 to 69 (6.6% compared to 7.2%)
Emerging groups
From 2006 to 2021, G21 Region's population needing assistance increased by 10,025 people (82.5%). This represents an average annual population change of 4.09% per year over the period.
The largest changes in age structure of the population needing assistance in this area between 2006 and 2021 were in the age groups:
- 85 and over (+1,830 persons)
- 70 to 74 (+1,021 persons)
- 10 to 14 (+822 persons)
- 65 to 69 (+794 persons)
