Analysis of the language spoken at home by people aged 25 to 34 years in the G21 Region in 2021 compared to Regional VIC shows that there was a smaller proportion of people who spoke English only, and a larger proportion of those speaking a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).
Overall, 78.6% of people aged 25 to 34 years spoke English only, and 15.8% of% spoke a non-English language, compared with 81.0% and 12.3% respectively for Regional VIC.
Other than English, the dominant language spoken at home by people aged 25 to 34 years in the G21 Region was Punjabi, with 2.0% of the population, or 929 people speaking this language at home.
There were no major differences between G21 Region and Regional VIC in 2021.
Between 2016 and 2021, the number of people aged 25 to 34 years who spoke a language other than English at home increased by 2,834 or 61.7%, and the number of people who spoke English only increased by 6,996 or 23.3%.
