Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in East Gippsland Shire in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (2,542 females or 26.6%)
  • Education and Training (1,301 females or 13.6%)
  • Retail Trade (1,076 females or 11.3%)

In combination, these three industries employed 4,919 females in total or 51.6% of the total employed female resident population.

In comparison, Bairnsdale urban area (Overlay) employed 28.3% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 13.4% in Education and Training; and 12.4% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of East Gippsland Shire and Bairnsdale urban area (Overlay) were:

  • A larger percentage of females employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (5.3% compared to 2.6%)
  • A larger percentage of females employed in accommodation and food services (9.5% compared to 7.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in manufacturing (4.6% compared to 6.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in health care and social assistance (26.6% compared to 28.3%)
