Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Cooktown in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (202 people or 19.2%)
  • Public Administration and Safety (137 people or 13.0%)
  • Construction (115 people or 10.9%)

In combination, these three industries employed 454 people in total or 43.1% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Rural Cook Shire employed 6.9% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 9.0% in Public Administration and Safety; and 7.1% in Construction.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Cooktown and Rural Cook Shire were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in health care and social assistance (19.2% compared to 6.9%)
