Analysis of the language used at home by the population of COMSEQ excluding Gold Coast in 2021 compared to South East Queensland shows that there was a similar proportion of people who used English only, as well as a similar proportion of those using a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).
Overall, 79.3% of the population used English only, and 15.7% used a non-English language, compared with 79.5% and 15.3% respectively for South East Queensland.
The dominant language used at home, other than English, in COMSEQ excluding Gold Coast was Mandarin, with 2.1% of the population, or 66,967 people using this language at home.
