Dominant groups
Analysis of the female five year age groups of South East Queensland in 2021 compared to Greater Brisbane shows that there was a lower proportion of females in the younger age groups (under 15) and a higher proportion of females in the older age groups (65+).
Overall, 17.8% of the female population was aged between 0 and 15, and 17.3% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 18.4% and 15.6% respectively for Greater Brisbane.
There were no major differences between South East Queensland and Greater Brisbane in 2021.
Emerging groups
From 2016 to 2021, South East Queensland's female population increased by 194,621 people (11.3%). This represents an average annual population change of 2.16% per year over the period.
The largest changes in female age structure in this area between 2016 and 2021 were in the age groups:
- 35 to 39 (+24,202 females)
- 70 to 74 (+21,204 females)
- 10 to 14 (+17,551 females)
- 75 to 79 (+15,166 females)
