The Coastal District's occupation statistics quantify the occupations in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the economic base and employment opportunities available in the area, education levels, and the working and social aspirations of the population. When viewed with other indicators, such as Educational Qualifications and Individual Income, Occupation is a key measure for evaluating the Coastal District's socio-economic status and skill base.

Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in Coastal District in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:
- Professionals (2,319 males or 25.5%)
- Managers (1,907 males or 21.0%)
- Technicians and Trades Workers (1,886 males or 20.8%)
In combination these three occupations accounted for 6,112 males in total or 67.3% of the employed male resident population.
In comparison, the Peninsula District employed 16.7% in Professionals; 14.7% in Managers; and 24.5% in Technicians and Trades Workers.
The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of the Coastal District and the Peninsula District were:
- A larger percentage of males employed as Professionals (25.5% compared to 16.7%)
- A larger percentage of males employed as Managers (21.0% compared to 14.7%)
- A smaller percentage of males employed as Machinery Operators And Drivers (5.0% compared to 10.1%)
- A smaller percentage of males employed as Labourers (8.1% compared to 12.7%)
Emerging groups
The number of employed males in Coastal District increased by 871 between 2011 and 2021.
The largest changes in the occupations of male residents between 2011 and 2021 in the Coastal District were for those employed as:
- Managers (+421 males)
- Professionals (+411 males)
- Community and Personal Service Workers (+102 males)
- Technicians and Trades Workers (-68 males)
