The ability of the population to access services and employment is strongly influenced by access to transport. The number of motor vehicles per household in Central Coast NSW quantifies access to private transport and will be influenced by Age Structure and Household Type, which determine the number of adults present; access to public transport, distance to shops, services, employment and education.
This topic is restricted to those in low income households. Low incomes may be associated with less transport options and lack of access to a car. However, this may not be a concern in all areas if public transport is available. Local governments may need to provide transport services or advocate for transport services to low income households where there are few other transport options.

Analysis of the car ownership for low income households in Central Coast NSW in 2021 compared to Australia shows that 82.6% of low income households owned at least one car, while 15.7% owned no motor vehicles, compared with 80.8% and 17.5% respectively for Australia.
Of those who owned at least one vehicle, there was a larger proportion who owned just one car; a smaller proportion who owned two cars; and a smaller proportion who owned three cars or more.
Overall, 58.5% of low income households that owned one car; 19.0% owned two cars; and 5.2% owned three cars or more, compared with 51.4%; 22.2% and 7.2% respectively for Australia.
