In 2016, 274 people (or 3.4% of the population) in Mountains and Valleys reported needing help in their day-to-day lives due to disability. This was a similar percentage to 2011.

Dominant groups
Analysis of the need for assistance of people in Central Coast Council area compared to Central Coast Council area shows that there was a lower proportion of people who reported needing assistance with core activities.
Overall, 3.4% of the population reported needing assistance with core activities, compared with 6.4% for Central Coast Council area.
The major differences in the age groups reporting a need for assistance in Mountains and Valleys and Central Coast Council area were:
- A larger percentage of persons aged 80 to 84 (28.0% compared to 22.6%)
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 70 to 74 (4.3% compared to 10.0%)
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 65 to 69 (3.7% compared to 7.8%)
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 60 to 64 (2.9% compared to 6.8%)
