Dominant groups
Analysis of the language spoken at home by people aged 18 to 24 years in the City of Casey in 2021 compared to Greater Melbourne shows that there was a smaller proportion of people who spoke English only, and a larger proportion of those speaking a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).
Overall, 57.9% of people aged 18 to 24 years spoke English only, and 36.8% spoke a non-English language, compared with 62.6% and 32.5% respectively for Greater Melbourne.
Other than English, the dominant language spoken at home by people aged 18 to 24 years in the City of Casey was Hazaraghi, with 4.5% of the population, or 1,488 people speaking this language at home.
The major differences between the languages spoken at home for people aged 18 to 24 years of the City of Casey and Greater Melbourne in 2021 were:
- A larger percentage speaking Hazaraghi at home (4.5% compared to 0.5%)
- A larger percentage speaking Dari at home (2.8% compared to 0.3%)

Emerging groups
Between 2011 and 2021, the number of people aged 18 to 24 years who spoke a language other than English at home increased by 5,363 or 78.0%, and the number of people who spoke English only increased by 2,617 or 15.7%.
The largest changes in the spoken languages of people aged 18 to 24 years in the City of Casey between 2011 and 2021 were for those speaking:
- Hazaraghi (+1,312 persons)
- Punjabi (+879 persons)
- Sinhalese (+649 persons)
- Dari (+327 persons)
