Eastern Region's industry statistics identify the industry sectors in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.

When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Eastern Region in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Construction (879 people or 18.8%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (470 people or 10.1%)
  • Retail Trade (408 people or 8.7%)

In combination, these three industries employed 1,757 people in total or 37.7% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Cardinia Shire employed 13.8% in Construction; 13.4% in Health Care and Social Assistance; and 9.9% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Eastern Region and Cardinia Shire were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in construction (18.8% compared to 13.8%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (5.1% compared to 2.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in health care and social assistance (10.1% compared to 13.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in manufacturing (7.3% compared to 9.4%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed people in Eastern Region increased by 907 between 2011 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the resident population between 2011 and 2021 in Eastern Region were for those employed in:

  • Construction (+276 persons)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+167 persons)
  • Education and Training (+127 persons)
  • Manufacturing (-85 persons)
