Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the population born overseas in City of Canning in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:
- Professionals (7,802 people or 26.8%)
- Community and Personal Service Workers (3,903 people or 13.4%)
- Technicians and Trades Workers (3,829 people or 13.1%)
In combination these three occupations accounted for 15,534 people in total or 53.3% of the employed population born overseas.
In comparison, the total population in the City of Canning employed 25.9% in Professionals; 12.7% in Community and Personal Service Workers; and 13.3% in Technicians and Trades Workers.
The major differences between the jobs held by the population born overseas in the City of Canning and the total population in the City of Canning were:
- A larger percentage of people employed as Labourers (11.2% compared to 10.0%)
- A smaller percentage of people employed as Sales Workers (6.4% compared to 7.8%)
- A smaller percentage of people employed as Clerical and Administrative Workers (10.5% compared to 11.8%)

The number of employed population born overseas in City of Canning increased by 5,374 between 2016 and 2021.
The largest changes in the occupations of the population born overseas between 2016 and 2021 in the City of Canning were for those employed as:
