Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the population born in China in City of Canning in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:
- Professionals (643 people or 23.8%)
- Technicians and Trades Workers (511 people or 18.9%)
- Labourers (364 people or 13.5%)
In combination these three occupations accounted for 1,518 people in total or 56.3% of the employed population born in China.
In comparison, Greater Perth employed 26.0% in Professionals; 15.3% in Technicians and Trades Workers; and 12.8% in Labourers.
The major differences between the jobs held by the population born in China in the City of Canning and Greater Perth were:
- A larger percentage of people employed as Technicians and Trades Workers (18.9% compared to 15.3%)
- A smaller percentage of people employed as Professionals (23.8% compared to 26.0%)
- A smaller percentage of people employed as Managers (9.6% compared to 11.5%)

The number of employed population born in China in City of Canning increased by 594 between 2016 and 2021.
The largest changes in the occupations of the population born in China between 2016 and 2021 in the City of Canning were for those employed as:
- Professionals (+161 persons)
- Technicians and Trades Workers (+137 persons)
- Community and Personal Service Workers (+100 persons)
- Clerical and Administrative Workers (+58 persons)
