Dominant groups
Analysis of the household/family types of Sinhalese speakers in the City of Canning in 2021 compared to Australia shows that there was a higher proportion of Sinhalese speakers in couple families with child(ren) as well as a similar proportion in one-parent families. Overall, 74.1% of Sinhalese speakers were in couple families with child(ren), and 4.1% were one-parent families, compared with 67.7% and 4.3% respectively for Australia.
There were a lower proportion of Sinhalese speakers in lone person households and a lower proportion in couples without children. Overall, the proportion of Sinhalese speakers in lone person households was 2.1% compared to 3.8% in Australia while the proportion in couples without children was 12.5% compared to 18.7% in Australia.
