Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in Cairns North in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (208 males or 16.1%)
  • Accommodation and Food Services (204 males or 15.8%)
  • Public Administration and Safety (133 males or 10.3%)

In combination, these three industries employed 545 males in total or 42.1% of the total employed male resident population.

In comparison, Smithfield employed 7.9% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 10.5% in Accommodation and Food Services; and 10.4% in Public Administration and Safety.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of Cairns North and Smithfield were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed in health care and social assistance (16.1% compared to 7.9%)
  • A larger percentage of males employed in accommodation and food services (15.8% compared to 10.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in construction (7.9% compared to 14.9%)
