Occupation of employment

There were more professionals in Division 5 in 2021 than any other occupation.

Division 5's occupation statistics quantify the occupations in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the economic base and employment opportunities available in the area, education levels, and the working and social aspirations of the population. When viewed with other indicators, such as Educational Qualifications and Individual Income, Occupation is a key measure for evaluating Division 5's socio-economic status and skill base.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Division 5 in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:

  • Professionals (992 people or 26.2%)
  • Community and Personal Service Workers (523 people or 13.8%)
  • Managers (508 people or 13.4%)

In combination these three occupations accounted for 2,023 people in total or 53.4% of the employed resident population.

In comparison, Gin Gin - Rural West employed 9.5% in Professionals; 11.7% in Community and Personal Service Workers; and 17.6% in Managers.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Division 5 and Gin Gin - Rural West were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed as Professionals (26.2% compared to 9.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed as Labourers (8.8% compared to 18.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed as Machinery Operators And Drivers (4.9% compared to 13.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed as Managers (13.4% compared to 17.6%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed people in Division 5 increased by 653 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the occupations of residents between 2016 and 2021 in Division 5 were for those employed as:

  • Professionals (+191 persons)
  • Community and Personal Service Workers (+134 persons)
  • Clerical and Administrative Workers (+120 persons)
  • Labourers (+71 persons)
