Occupation of employment

There were more professionals in Division 6 in 2021 than any other occupation.

Division 6's occupation statistics quantify the occupations in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the economic base and employment opportunities available in the area, education levels, and the working and social aspirations of the population. When viewed with other indicators, such as Educational Qualifications and Individual Income, Occupation is a key measure for evaluating Division 6's socio-economic status and skill base.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Division 6 in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:

  • Professionals (707 people or 18.2%)
  • Technicians and Trades Workers (551 people or 14.2%)
  • Community and Personal Service Workers (543 people or 14.0%)

In combination these three occupations accounted for 1,801 people in total or 46.3% of the employed resident population.

In comparison, Bargara - Qunaba employed 26.0% in Professionals; 11.4% in Technicians and Trades Workers; and 13.7% in Community and Personal Service Workers.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Division 6 and Bargara - Qunaba were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed as Labourers (12.8% compared to 8.8%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed as Technicians and Trades Workers (14.2% compared to 11.4%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed as Machinery Operators And Drivers (7.3% compared to 5.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed as Professionals (18.2% compared to 26.0%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed people in Division 6 increased by 584 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the occupations of residents between 2016 and 2021 in Division 6 were for those employed as:

  • Community and Personal Service Workers (+165 persons)
  • Professionals (+115 persons)
  • Managers (+105 persons)
  • Labourers (+57 persons)
