Industry sector of employment

More Division 5 residents worked in health care and social assistance than any other industry in 2021.

Division 5's industry statistics identify the industry sectors in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.

When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Division 5 in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (904 people or 23.9%)
  • Education and Training (466 people or 12.3%)
  • Retail Trade (324 people or 8.6%)

In combination, these three industries employed 1,694 people in total or 44.8% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Branyan - Kensington employed 20.0% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 7.3% in Education and Training; and 11.5% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Division 5 and Branyan - Kensington were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in education and training (12.3% compared to 7.3%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in health care and social assistance (23.9% compared to 20.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in retail trade (8.6% compared to 11.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in other services (3.0% compared to 5.7%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed people in Division 5 increased by 746 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the resident population between 2016 and 2021 in Division 5 were for those employed in:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+241 persons)
  • Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (+98 persons)
  • Education and Training (+76 persons)
  • Public Administration and Safety (+66 persons)
