Dominant groups

Analysis of the language used at home by the population of Hawthorn in 2016 compared to Junction Ward shows that there was a smaller proportion of people who used English only, as well as a smaller proportion of those using a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).

Overall, 68.4% of the population used English only, and 24.9 used a non-English language, compared with 69.5% and 25.5% respectively for Junction Ward.

The dominant language used at home, other than English, in Hawthorn was Mandarin, with 5.1% of the population, or 1,189 people using this language at home.
