The size of Hawthorn East's labour force in 2016 was 8,041, of which 2,444 were employed part-time and 4,867 were full time workers.
Analysis of the employment status (as a percentage of the labour force) in Hawthorn East in 2016 compared to Greater Melbourne shows that there was a higher proportion in employment, and a lower proportion unemployed. Overall, 95.0% of the labour force was employed, and 5.0% unemployed, compared with 93.2% and 6.8% respectively for Greater Melbourne.
Analysis of the labour force participation rate of the population in Hawthorn East in 2016 shows that there was a higher proportion in the labour force (66.9%) compared with Greater Melbourne (61.9%).
