Dominant groups

Analysis of the male five year age groups of Ward 3 in 2021 compared to Hassall Grove shows that there was a lower proportion of males in the younger age groups (under 15) and a higher proportion of males in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 20.5% of the male population was aged between 0 and 15, and 12.4% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 23.3% and 8.0% respectively for Hassall Grove.

The major differences between the male age structure of Ward 3 and Hassall Grove were:

  • A larger percentage of males aged 35 to 39 (8.3% compared to 5.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of males aged 15 to 19 (6.0% compared to 8.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of males aged 20 to 24 (7.7% compared to 9.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of males aged 55 to 59 (5.7% compared to 7.2%)

From 2011 to 2021, Ward 3's male population increased by 5,093 people (16.9%). This represents an average annual population change of 1.57% per year over the period.

The largest changes in male age structure in this area between 2011 and 2021 were in the age groups:

  • 20 to 24 (+568 males)
  • 25 to 29 (+543 males)
