Dominant groups

Analysis of the language spoken at home by people aged 35 to 54 years in the City of Greater Bendigo in 2021 compared to Regional VIC shows that there was a larger proportion of people who spoke English only, and a smaller proportion of those speaking a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).

Overall, 86.5% of people aged 35 to 54 years spoke English only, and 8.1% of% spoke a non-English language, compared with 84.9% and 8.7% respectively for Regional VIC.

Other than English, the dominant language spoken at home by people aged 35 to 54 years in the City of Greater Bendigo was Karen, with 1.1% of the population, or 324 people speaking this language at home.
