Occupation of employment

There were more professionals in Ward 4 in 2021 than any other occupation.

Ward 4's occupation statistics quantify the occupations in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the economic base and employment opportunities available in the area, education levels, and the working and social aspirations of the population. When viewed with other indicators, such as Educational Qualifications and Individual Income, Occupation is a key measure for evaluating Ward 4's socio-economic status and skill base.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Ward 4 in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:

  • Professionals (3,957 people or 25.6%)
  • Clerical and Administrative Workers (2,143 people or 13.9%)
  • Technicians and Trades Workers (1,742 people or 11.3%)

In combination these three occupations accounted for 7,842 people in total or 50.8% of the employed resident population.

In comparison, Bayside Council area employed 26.8% in Professionals; 14.4% in Clerical and Administrative Workers; and 11.3% in Technicians and Trades Workers.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Ward 4 and Bayside Council area were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed as Labourers (10.2% compared to 8.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed as Managers (11.2% compared to 13.2%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed as Professionals (25.6% compared to 26.8%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed people in Ward 4 decreased by 776 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the occupations of residents between 2016 and 2021 in Ward 4 were for those employed as:

  • Labourers (-362 persons)
  • Professionals (+331 persons)
  • Technicians and Trades Workers (-302 persons)
  • Sales Workers (-244 persons)
