Occupation of employment
There were more professionals in Ward 1 in 2016 than any other occupation.
Ward 1's occupation statistics quantify the occupations in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the economic base and employment opportunities available in the area, education levels, and the working and social aspirations of the population. When viewed with other indicators, such as Educational Qualifications and Individual Income, Occupation is a key measure for evaluating Ward 1's socio-economic status and skill base.
Derived from the two Census questions:
'In the main job held last week, what was the person's occupation?' and 'What are the main tasks that the person himself/herself usually performs in that occupation?'

Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Ward 1 in 2016 shows the three most popular occupations were:
- Professionals (2,860 people or 20.3%)
- Clerical and Administrative Workers (2,217 people or 15.8%)
- Technicians and Trades Workers (1,809 people or 12.9%)
In combination these three occupations accounted for 6,886 people in total or 49.0% of the employed resident population.
In comparison, Sandringham - Dolls Point employed 23.3% in Professionals; 16.0% in Clerical and Administrative Workers; and 10.1% in Technicians and Trades Workers.
The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Ward 1 and Sandringham - Dolls Point were:
- A larger percentage of persons employed as Labourers (8.7% compared to 5.6%)
- A larger percentage of persons employed as Technicians and Trades Workers (12.9% compared to 10.1%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed as Managers (12.3% compared to 15.7%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed as Professionals (20.3% compared to 23.3%)
Emerging groups
The number of employed people in Ward 1 increased by 1,761 between 2011 and 2016.
The largest changes in the occupations of residents between 2011 and 2016 in Ward 1 were for those employed as:
- Professionals (+627 persons)
- Managers (+418 persons)
- Community and Personal Service Workers (+273 persons)
- Technicians and Trades Workers (+226 persons)
