More Ward 2 female residents worked in health care and social assistance than any other industry in 2021.

This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.

When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in Ward 2 in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (1,760 females or 14.3%)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (1,498 females or 12.1%)
  • Retail Trade (1,243 females or 10.1%)

In combination, these three industries employed 4,501 females in total or 36.4% of the total employed female resident population.

In comparison, Eastlakes employed 24.0% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 6.9% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services; and 12.5% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of Ward 2 and Eastlakes were:

  • A larger percentage of females employed in professional, scientific and technical services (12.1% compared to 6.9%)
  • A larger percentage of females employed in accommodation and food services (9.4% compared to 5.3%)
  • A larger percentage of females employed in financial and insurance services (8.6% compared to 5.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in health care and social assistance (14.3% compared to 24.0%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed females in Ward 2 increased by 3,737 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the female resident population between 2016 and 2021 in Ward 2 were for those employed in:

  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+620 females)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+537 females)
  • Financial and Insurance Services (+368 females)
  • Education and Training (+325 females)
