In 2021, the largest age group in Ward 2 was 25 to 29 year olds. The group that changed the most since 2016 was 30 to 34 year olds, increasing by 2,931 people.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the five year age groups of Ward 2 in 2021 compared to Bayside Council area shows that there was a lower proportion of people in the younger age groups (under 15) as well as a lower proportion of people in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 12.1% of the population was aged between 0 and 15, and 8.3% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 15.1% and 14.7% respectively for Bayside Council area.

The major differences between the age structure of Ward 2 and Bayside Council area were:

  • A larger percentage of persons aged 25 to 29 (17.4% compared to 10.4%)
  • A larger percentage of persons aged 30 to 34 (15.8% compared to 10.5%)
  • A larger percentage of persons aged 20 to 24 (11.1% compared to 7.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons aged 55 to 59 (3.7% compared to 5.3%)

Emerging groups

From 2016 to 2021, Ward 2's population increased by 11,994 people (32.2%). This represents an average annual population change of 5.74% per year over the period.

The largest changes in age structure in this area between 2016 and 2021 were in the age groups:

  • 30 to 34 (+2,931 persons)
  • 25 to 29 (+2,758 persons)
  • 35 to 39 (+1,695 persons)
  • 20 to 24 (+1,600 persons)
