In 2021, the largest age group in Ward 1 was 30 to 34 year olds. The group that changed the most since 2011 was 30 to 34 year olds, increasing by 1,172 people.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the five year age groups of Ward 1 in 2021 compared to Sans Souci shows that there was a higher proportion of people in the younger age groups (under 15) and a lower proportion of people in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 17.3% of the population was aged between 0 and 15, and 14.5% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 16.7% and 23.1% respectively for Sans Souci.

The major differences between the age structure of Ward 1 and Sans Souci were:

  • A larger percentage of persons aged 25 to 29 (8.1% compared to 5.0%)
  • A larger percentage of persons aged 30 to 34 (9.1% compared to 6.2%)
  • A larger percentage of persons aged 20 to 24 (6.6% compared to 4.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons aged 70 to 74 (3.8% compared to 5.7%)

Emerging groups

From 2011 to 2021, Ward 1's population increased by 8,005 people (29.4%). This represents an average annual population change of 2.61% per year over the period.

The largest changes in age structure in this area between 2011 and 2021 were in the age groups:

  • 30 to 34 (+1,172 persons)
  • 25 to 29 (+985 persons)
  • 35 to 39 (+785 persons)
  • 20 to 24 (+649 persons)
