Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Urban Overlay in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (3,035 people or 17.2%)
  • Education and Training (2,033 people or 11.5%)
  • Retail Trade (1,778 people or 10.1%)

In combination, these three industries employed 6,846 people in total or 38.7% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Oberon Council area employed 9.6% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 7.0% in Education and Training; and 6.3% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Urban Overlay and Oberon Council area were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in health care and social assistance (17.2% compared to 9.6%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in education and training (11.5% compared to 7.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (1.8% compared to 14.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in manufacturing (7.7% compared to 16.7%)
