Dominant groups

Analysis of the language used at home by the population of the City of Ballarat in 2021 compared to Regional VIC shows that there was a larger proportion of people who used English only, and a similar proportion of those using a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).

Overall, 88.1% of the population used English only, and 7.0% used a non-English language, compared with 86.4% and 7.1% respectively for Regional VIC.

The dominant language used at home, other than English, in the City of Ballarat was Mandarin, with 0.9% of the population, or 968 people using this language at home.

There were no major differences between City of Ballarat and Regional VIC in 2021.
