Dominant groups

Analysis of the language spoken at home by people aged 12 to 25 years in the City of Ballarat in 2021 compared to Regional VIC shows that there was a larger proportion of people who spoke English only, and a similar proportion of those speaking a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).

Overall, 88.4% of people aged 12 to 25 years spoke English only, and 6.6% of% spoke a non-English language, compared with 87.3% and 6.5% respectively for Regional VIC.

Other than English, the dominant language spoken at home by people aged 12 to 25 years in the City of Ballarat was Mandarin, with 0.8% of the population, or 161 people speaking this language at home.

There were no major differences between City of Ballarat and Regional VIC in 2021.

Emerging groups
