Dominant groups
Analysis of the male service age groups of Regional TAS in 2021 compared to Northern Territory shows that there was a lower proportion of males in the younger age groups (0 to 17 years) and a higher proportion of males in the older age groups (60+ years).
Overall, 20.9% of the male population was aged between 0 and 17, and 29.0% were aged 60 years and over, compared with 23.1% and 17.6% respectively for Northern Territory.
The major differences between the male age structure of Regional TAS and Northern Territory were:
- A larger percentage of 'Seniors' (13.0% compared to 6.4%)
- A larger percentage of 'Empty nesters and retirees' (14.1% compared to 10.8%)
- A smaller percentage of 'Young workforce' (12.2% compared to 17.1%)
- A smaller percentage of 'Parents and homebuilders' (16.7% compared to 20.9%)
Emerging groups
From 1996 to 2021, Regional TAS's male population increased by 17,997 people (13.5%). This represents an average annual population change of 0.51% per year over the period.
The largest changes in the male age structure in this area between 1996 and 2021 were in the age groups:
- Seniors (70 to 84) (+11,282 males)
- Empty nesters and retirees (60 to 69) (+10,742 males)
- Older workers and pre-retirees (50 to 59) (+6,329 males)
- Parents and homebuilders (35 to 49) (-4,939 males)
