Dominant groups

Analysis of the female service age groups of Greater Adelaide in 2021 compared to Regional WA shows that there was a lower proportion of females in the younger age groups (0 to 17 years) and a similar proportion of females in the older age groups (60+ years).

Overall, 19.7% of the female population was aged between 0 and 17, and 26.0% were aged 60 years and over, compared with 21.6% and 25.5% respectively for Regional WA.

The major differences between the female age structure of Greater Adelaide and Regional WA were:

  • A larger percentage of 'Tertiary education & independence' (8.5% compared to 6.4%)
  • A larger percentage of 'Frail aged' (3.2% compared to 1.9%)
  • A smaller percentage of 'Empty nesters and retirees' (11.4% compared to 13.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of 'Older workers & pre-retirees' (12.6% compared to 13.9%)
