Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Regional SA in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:
- Managers (28,042 people or 16.7%)
- Labourers (25,255 people or 15.1%)
- Technicians and Trades Workers (23,719 people or 14.1%)
In combination these three occupations accounted for 77,016 people in total or 45.9% of the employed resident population.
In comparison, Northern Territory employed 12.9% in Managers; 8.5% in Labourers; and 13.8% in Technicians and Trades Workers.
The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Regional SA and Northern Territory were:
- A larger percentage of persons employed as Labourers (15.1% compared to 8.5%)
- A larger percentage of persons employed as Managers (16.7% compared to 12.9%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed as Professionals (13.1% compared to 22.0%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed as Clerical and Administrative Workers (9.9% compared to 13.2%)

The number of employed people in Regional SA increased by 6,079 between 2011 and 2021.
The largest changes in the occupations of residents between 2011 and 2021 in Regional SA were for those employed as:
- Community and Personal Service Workers (+5,052 persons)
- Professionals (+1,723 persons)
- Managers (-863 persons)
- Clerical and Administrative Workers (-488 persons)
