There were more female professionals in Greater Adelaide in 2021 than any other occupation.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in Greater Adelaide in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:

  • Professionals (89,729 females or 27.4%)
  • Clerical and Administrative Workers (64,625 females or 19.8%)
  • Community and Personal Service Workers (61,330 females or 18.7%)

In combination these three occupations accounted for 215,684 females in total or 65.9% of the employed female resident population.

In comparison, Regional NSW employed 24.2% in Professionals; 19.2% in Clerical and Administrative Workers; and 19.5% in Community and Personal Service Workers.

The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of Greater Adelaide and Regional NSW were:

  • A larger percentage of females employed as Professionals (27.4% compared to 24.2%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed as Labourers (6.8% compared to 7.9%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed females in Greater Adelaide increased by 42,795 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the occupations of female residents between 2016 and 2021 in Greater Adelaide were for those employed as:

  • Professionals (+16,540 females)
  • Community and Personal Service Workers (+11,498 females)
  • Managers (+7,077 females)
  • Technicians and Trades Workers (+2,432 females)
