Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in Greater Darwin in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (7,560 females or 20.7%)
  • Public Administration and Safety (6,673 females or 18.3%)
  • Education and Training (4,612 females or 12.6%)

In combination, these three industries employed 18,845 females in total or 51.7% of the total employed female resident population.

In comparison, Regional Australia employed 25.2% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 5.9% in Public Administration and Safety; and 13.5% in Education and Training.

The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of Greater Darwin and Regional Australia were:

  • A larger percentage of females employed in public administration and safety (18.3% compared to 5.9%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in health care and social assistance (20.7% compared to 25.2%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in retail trade (8.3% compared to 11.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (0.9% compared to 3.7%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed females in Greater Darwin increased by 4,014 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the female resident population between 2016 and 2021 in Greater Darwin were for those employed in:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+2,382 females)
  • Public Administration and Safety (+655 females)
  • Accommodation and Food Services (+420 females)
  • Education and Training (+349 females)
