Analysis of the household/family types in Australian Capital Territory in 2021 compared to Western Australia shows that there was a higher proportion of couple families with child(ren) as well as a lower proportion of one-parent families. Overall, 30.8% of total families were couple families with child(ren), and 9.3% were one-parent families, compared with 30.2% and 10.0% respectively for Western Australia.
There were a higher proportion of lone person households and a similar proportion of couples without children. Overall, the proportion of lone person households was 24.8% compared to 23.8% in Western Australia while the proportion of couples without children was 25.8% compared to 25.4% in Western Australia.
The number of households in Australian Capital Territory increased by 39,958 between 2011 and 2021.
