Analysis of the household/family types in South Australia in 2021 compared to Regional SA shows that there was a higher proportion of couple families with child(ren) as well as a higher proportion of one-parent families. Overall, 26.9% of total families were couple families with child(ren), and 10.8% were one-parent families, compared with 21.2% and 9.0% respectively for Regional SA.
There were a lower proportion of lone person households and a lower proportion of couples without children. Overall, the proportion of lone person households was 27.3% compared to 28.7% in Regional SA while the proportion of couples without children was 26.4% compared to 29.8% in Regional SA.
The number of households in South Australia increased by 207,476 between 1991 and 2021.
