Dominant groups
Analysis of the male five year age groups of Regional QLD in 2021 compared to Victoria shows that there was a similar proportion of males in the younger age groups (under 15) and a higher proportion of males in the older age groups (65+).
Overall, 18.7% of the male population was aged between 0 and 15, and 19.5% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 18.9% and 15.5% respectively for Victoria.
The major differences between the male age structure of Regional QLD and Victoria were:
- A larger percentage of males aged 70 to 74 (5.6% compared to 4.1%)
- A smaller percentage of males aged 30 to 34 (6.1% compared to 7.6%)
- A smaller percentage of males aged 35 to 39 (6.1% compared to 7.5%)

From 1996 to 2021, Regional QLD's male population increased by 429,958 people (48.0%). This represents an average annual population change of 1.58% per year over the period.
The largest changes in male age structure in this area between 1996 and 2021 were in the age groups:
- 60 to 64 (+47,141 males)
- 70 to 74 (+42,370 males)
- 55 to 59 (+41,783 males)
- 65 to 69 (+40,974 males)
