Five year age groups

In 2021, the largest age group in Regional NT was 30 to 34 year olds. The group that changed the most since 2011 was 65 to 69 year olds, increasing by 2,346 people.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the five year age groups of Regional NT in 2021 compared to Greater Adelaide shows that there was a higher proportion of people in the younger age groups (under 15) and a lower proportion of people in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 19.7% of the population was aged between 0 and 15, and 11.2% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 17.3% and 18.5% respectively for Greater Adelaide.

The major differences between the age structure of Regional NT and Greater Adelaide were:

  • A larger percentage of persons aged 30 to 34 (8.7% compared to 7.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons aged 85 and over (0.3% compared to 2.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons aged 75 to 79 (1.5% compared to 3.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons aged 80 to 84 (0.6% compared to 2.4%)

Emerging groups

From 2011 to 2021, Regional NT's population increased by 7,353 people (7.3%). This represents an average annual population change of 0.71% per year over the period.

The largest changes in age structure in this area between 2011 and 2021 were in the age groups:

  • 65 to 69 (+2,346 persons)
  • 70 to 74 (+1,753 persons)
  • 30 to 34 (+1,715 persons)
  • 60 to 64 (+1,670 persons)
