Dominant groups
Analysis of the male five year age groups of Tasmania in 2021 compared to Regional NT shows that there was a lower proportion of males in the younger age groups (under 15) and a higher proportion of males in the older age groups (65+).
Overall, 17.5% of the male population was aged between 0 and 15, and 19.7% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 20.2% and 11.7% respectively for Regional NT.
The major differences between the male age structure of Tasmania and Regional NT were:
- A larger percentage of males aged 75 to 79 (3.8% compared to 1.6%)
- A larger percentage of males aged 70 to 74 (5.5% compared to 3.7%)
- A larger percentage of males aged 80 to 84 (2.4% compared to 0.7%)
- A larger percentage of males aged 85 and over (1.8% compared to 0.3%)
Emerging groups
From 1991 to 2021, Tasmania's male population increased by 48,273 people (21.6%). This represents an average annual population change of 0.66% per year over the period.
The largest changes in male age structure in this area between 1991 and 2021 were in the age groups:
- 70 to 74 (+9,041 males)
- 60 to 64 (+8,650 males)
- 55 to 59 (+8,379 males)
- 65 to 69 (+8,358 males)
