Dominant groups
Analysis of the female five year age groups of Greater Brisbane in 2021 compared to Regional SA shows that there was a higher proportion of females in the younger age groups (under 15) and a lower proportion of females in the older age groups (65+).
Overall, 18.4% of the female population was aged between 0 and 15, and 15.6% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 16.3% and 25.4% respectively for Regional SA.
The major differences between the female age structure of Greater Brisbane and Regional SA were:
- A larger percentage of females aged 20 to 24 (6.7% compared to 4.4%)
- A smaller percentage of females aged 65 to 69 (4.6% compared to 7.3%)
- A smaller percentage of females aged 70 to 74 (4.1% compared to 6.7%)
- A smaller percentage of females aged 60 to 64 (5.2% compared to 7.7%)
Emerging groups
From 2006 to 2021, Greater Brisbane's female population increased by 338,276 people (35.9%). This represents an average annual population change of 2.07% per year over the period.
The largest changes in female age structure in this area between 2006 and 2021 were in the age groups:
- 25 to 29 (+28,573 females)
- 70 to 74 (+27,670 females)
- 65 to 69 (+27,339 females)
- 30 to 34 (+25,992 females)
