Dominant groups

Analysis of the male five year age groups of New South Wales in 2021 compared to Regional QLD shows that there was a similar proportion of males in the younger age groups (under 15) and a lower proportion of males in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 19.0% of the male population was aged between 0 and 15, and 16.7% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 19.1% and 18.7% respectively for Regional QLD.

The major differences between the male age structure of New South Wales and Regional QLD were:

  • A larger percentage of males aged 30 to 34 (7.2% compared to 6.1%)
  • A larger percentage of males aged 35 to 39 (7.2% compared to 6.2%)
  • A larger percentage of males aged 25 to 29 (7.0% compared to 6.2%)
  • A smaller percentage of males aged 70 to 74 (4.5% compared to 5.3%)

Emerging groups

From 2011 to 2021, New South Wales's male population increased by 575,345 people (16.9%). This represents an average annual population change of 1.57% per year over the period.

The largest changes in male age structure in this area between 2011 and 2021 were in the age groups:
