Five year age groups

In 2021, the largest age group in Regional NSW was 60 to 64 year olds. The group that changed the most since 2006 was 65 to 69 year olds, increasing by 34,788 people.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the female five year age groups of Regional NSW in 2021 compared to Regional VIC shows that there was a similar proportion of females in the younger age groups (under 15) as well as a similar proportion of females in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 17.1% of the female population was aged between 0 and 15, and 22.8% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 16.9% and 22.5% respectively for Regional VIC.

There were no major differences between Regional NSW and Regional VIC in 2021.

Emerging groups

From 2006 to 2021, Regional NSW's female population increased by 215,095 people (17.5%). This represents an average annual population change of 1.08% per year over the period.

The largest changes in female age structure in this area between 2006 and 2021 were in the age groups:

  • 65 to 69 (+34,788 females)
  • 70 to 74 (+34,571 females)
  • 60 to 64 (+33,083 females)
  • 25 to 29 (+21,200 females)
