Dominant groups
Analysis of the male five year age groups of Victoria in 2021 compared to Northern Territory shows that there was a lower proportion of males in the younger age groups (under 15) and a higher proportion of males in the older age groups (65+).
Overall, 18.9% of the male population was aged between 0 and 15, and 15.5% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 19.7% and 11.9% respectively for Northern Territory.
The major differences between the male age structure of Victoria and Northern Territory were:
- A larger percentage of males aged 85 and over (1.7% compared to 0.4%)
- A larger percentage of males aged 80 to 84 (2.0% compared to 0.8%)
- A larger percentage of males aged 75 to 79 (2.9% compared to 1.9%)
- A smaller percentage of males aged 30 to 34 (7.6% compared to 8.7%)
Emerging groups
From 2016 to 2021, Victoria's male population increased by 299,730 people (10.4%). This represents an average annual population change of 2.0% per year over the period.
The largest changes in male age structure in this area between 2016 and 2021 were in the age groups:
- 35 to 39 (+40,674 males)
- 70 to 74 (+31,712 males)
- 10 to 14 (+26,249 males)
- 30 to 34 (+24,078 males)
