Dominant groups
Analysis of the male five year age groups of South East Queensland in 2021 compared to Tasmania shows that there was a higher proportion of males in the younger age groups (under 15) and a lower proportion of males in the older age groups (65+).
Overall, 19.7% of the male population was aged between 0 and 15, and 15.5% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 17.5% and 19.7% respectively for Tasmania.
The major differences between the male age structure of South East Queensland and Tasmania were:
- A larger percentage of males aged 40 to 44 (6.6% compared to 5.5%)
- A smaller percentage of males aged 65 to 69 (4.6% compared to 6.1%)
- A smaller percentage of males aged 60 to 64 (5.3% compared to 6.7%)
- A smaller percentage of males aged 70 to 74 (4.3% compared to 5.5%)
Emerging groups
From 2001 to 2021, South East Queensland's male population increased by 567,111 people (48.1%). This represents an average annual population change of 1.98% per year over the period.
The largest changes in male age structure in this area between 2001 and 2021 were in the age groups:
- 60 to 64 (+42,179 males)
- 65 to 69 (+40,503 males)
- 70 to 74 (+38,813 males)
- 35 to 39 (+38,606 males)
