Dominant groups

Analysis of the need for assistance of males in Australia compared to Regional Australia shows that there was a lower proportion of males who reported needing assistance with core activities.

Overall, 3.8% of the male population reported needing assistance with core activities, compared with 6.4% for Regional Australia.

The major differences in the male age groups reporting a need for assistance in Greater Darwin and Regional Australia were:

  • A larger percentage of males aged 85 and over (45.4% compared to 39.5%)
  • A larger percentage of males aged 80 to 84 (27.7% compared to 22.3%)
  • A larger percentage of males aged 75 to 79 (16.2% compared to 14.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of males aged 20 to 59 (1.8% compared to 3.5%)

Emerging groups

The major differences in the male age groups reporting a need for assistance between 2006 and 2021 in Greater Darwin were in the age groups:
