Location and boundaries
Tuggerah - Mardi - Chittaway Point - Tacoma South is bounded by the Wyong River in the north, Tuggerah Lake in the east, Ourimbah Creek and the locality of Kangy Angy in the south and the Sydney-Newcastle Freeway in the west.
Tuggerah is thought to be named from an Aboriginal word meaning "cold" or "where two waters meet".

Development of the area dates primarily from the 1980s, spurred by the extension of the Sydney-Newcastle Freeway. Rapid growth took place during the 1990s in the new release areas of Mardi and Tuggerah, with the population more than trebling between 1991 and 2001. Growth continued between 2001 and 2011, although at a much slower rate, a result of fewer new dwellings being added to the area, with most new dwellings being medium density housing. The new release areas are now largely developed.
Tuggerah - Mardi - Chittaway Point - Tacoma South is a residential, industrial and commercial area. The Mardi area has a number of medium density developments including Kensington Place and Greenwich Gardens.
Major features of the area include Westfield Tuggerah (sub-regional shopping centre), Supa Centa Tuggerah (homemakers centre), Tuggerah Business Park, Tuggerah Industrial Park, Wyong RSL Sports Complex, Casuarina Reserve, Lees Reserve, Sunshine Reserve, Tonkiss Street Reserve, Tuggerah Lakes Reserve (Pioneer Dairy site), Tuggerah Nature Reserve, Tuggerah Oval, Woodbury Park, Tuggerah Lake foreshore, Tuggerah Railway Station, Tuggerah Library and Council Services Centre, Woodbury Park Community Centre, Chittaway Point Hall, Tuggerah Community Hall, Tuggerah Public School and St Peter’s Catholic College.
This small area includes the localities of Chittaway Point, Tacoma South and Tuggerah, and the eastern part of Mardi. It excludes the part of the locality of Mardi west of the Sydney-Newcastle Freeway, which is located in the Rural West - Mardi Rural small area.
